Jan. 2025 hit over half a million more than the same month in 2024

The Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration released the first monthly sales report for 2025, and it is good news for a struggling cannabis market.
The metrics report was inaccurate for the last few weeks and was just recently fixed. The January 2024 sales were listed incorrectly – 2024 cultivation sales were listed incorrectly as $1,842,289 not the correct $921,144. So, factoring in the correct numbers, January 2025 sales were over half a million dollars more than January 2024.
However, that rise is not due to actual patient sales but an increase in manufacturer sales due to new products hitting the shelves.
This is most likely due to an increase in open shops, though ABCA does not report the number of open businesses every month. There were over 15 medical dispensaries open and selling legal D.C. products in January. There were also a few new manufacturers selling products on the market which directly contributed to the rise.
January 2025 manufacturer sales were $546,332 more than the same month the year before.
The increase in product sales could lead to a rise in consumer sales as more options in the product available could draw more patients to the legal market.
January 2025 in short
- Patients served fell by a little over a dozen while registered patients grew by over 1,000.
- D.C. patient sales rose slightly compared to December 2024. ($1,618,469 v. $1,580,388)
- Over 2,000 patient registrations could expire by the end of April 2025
- There were no significant changes in product sales or amounts sold.
