D.C. medical cannabis patient registrations will now only last two years

Starting Sunday, Mar. 2, 2025, the Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration (ABCA) will issue new medical cannabis patient and caregiver registrations for D.C. residents for two-year periods. This change comes as a 2024 temporary amendment act allowing six-year registrations expires. Registrations issued before Mar. 2, 2025 will remain valid for the full six-year term.

D.C. residents are encouraged to register onlinefor immediate access to a temporary digital registration. Registration remains free, and adults 21 and older can self-certify. ABCA is implementing this change to align with the expiration of the temporary amendment act.

This reduction in registration comes as the market continues to struggle, but patient registrations rise.
