A popular D.C. cannabis gifting store that opened early this year as a legal medical dispensary after tranistioning has been raided and shutdown by law enforcement. Chocolate City Wellness was closed on Sept. 10, 2025, according to the Metropolitan Police Department’s public incident report.
According to PoPville, a reader wrote in last week to say the both MPD and DEA shut the store down.
“I work nearby and see these guys all the time – they couldn’t be nicer, and from what I know, they applied for a legit license recently because the city forced them to. They seemed to be above board with everything and now it appears they’re screwed,” the reader wrote.
The Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Board has yet to release a statement on the store being shutdown. But according to MPD’s report, two people were arrested.
Law enforcement also confiscated “loose leaf green weed, THC Vapes, mushroom pills and THC edibles” when executing its search warrant. The charge is listed as possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
Chocolate City Wellness is the fourth medically licensed cannabis dispensary to face closure for ABCA violations. Dreams Wellness was padlocked in April two weeks after it opened after facing numerous violations before open. Chocolate City Wellness did not responded to request for comment.
Their Instagram post said they closed early due to “unforeseen technical difficulties.”
