Welcome to The Outlaw Report’s new Q&A series, focused on the cannabis landscape of the Mid-Atlantic. Our series aims to shine a spotlight on the trailblazers and experts who are shaping the local cannabis industry. Through their first-hand experience and insights, we explore the successes, challenges, and stories of businesses and individuals at the forefront of cannabis policy, business and innovation in the region.

Our second interview features Upling, the first Black-owned cannabis delivery app in the United States and Jamaica based in Maryland.

Upling is founded by Colin Fraser. The company won the growth-stage category of DC Startup Week in 2023.  Read the full interview below!

Welcome and thank you for joining us! To start off, could you tell us a bit about Upling and the services you offer?

Upling is the first black-owned cannabis delivery app in the U.S. and Jamaica that helps patients order from the dispensary right to their doorstep. We help hire returning citizens within our company and give them a better understanding of the cannabis market. We give our patients back time.

What is your favorite part of DMV cannabis market?

Upling is committed to fostering opportunity and empowerment. We prioritize hiring returning citizens within our ranks, offering them a chance to not only contribute to our company but also gain valuable insights into the dynamic cannabis market. Through mentorship and hands-on experience, we’re equipping individuals with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed.

When it comes to connecting people to your app, what are you most excited to for them to benefit from?

We pride ourselves in helping our patients reclaim their time. No more wasted hours waiting in lines or navigating crowded dispensaries. With Upling, you can reclaim those precious moments and focus on what truly matters to you while we take care of the rest.

How would you describe Upling’s ethos?

At the core of Upling’s mission is a commitment to social equity and justice. By prioritizing the hiring of returning citizens, Upling is providing second chances and opening doors to meaningful employment opportunities within the cannabis industry. With each delivery, Upling is transforming lives, breaking down barriers, and building a brighter future for individuals seeking to reintegrate into society.

What makes Upling unique?

Upling’s impact through community engagement, advocacy and support is sparking conversations, challenging stereotypes and championing the cause of social justice. With every order placed, you’re not just supporting a business — you’re joining a movement, a movement of compassion, inclusion and positive change.

What are some of the unique benefits for cannabis businesses that work with you?

Upling Cannabis Delivery offers cannabis businesses a range of benefits, including expanded reach, enhanced customer experience, regulatory support, efficient inventory management, brand visibility and scalability. By leveraging Upling’s expertise and resources, cannabis businesses can achieve greater success and thrive in the competitive cannabis market.

Can you share an example of when your services helped a client?

At our cannabis delivery service, we’re deeply honored to serve military families who have dedicated over four decades of service across three generations. It brings us immense joy to know that our deliveries have made a meaningful difference in their lives, allowing them to spend precious moments together as a family without the burden of leaving their home to obtain essential medication. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the sacrifices they have made, and we are committed to continuing to provide compassionate care and support to them and their loved ones.

Thank you for joining us, Colin!
