D.C. medical cannabis sales close out 2023 with six-month high

Six-month high in D.C. medical cannabis sales

While overall sales haven’t reached pre-Maryland adult-use launch levels, D.C.’s medical cannabis market showed signs of stability in December 2023. Total sales reached nearly $3 million, marking the highest monthly figure since Maryland’s recreational market opened in July.

Interestingly, patients benefiting from reduced licensing fees contributed over $300,000, representing 10% of the total market share. This highlights the program’s accessibility and potential for further growth.

While December 2022 saw overall sales exceeding $4 million, this year’s figures reveal consistent performance in other areas. Cultivation centers and manufacturers reported nearly identical totals compared to December 2022, with a difference of only $79,430.

Furthermore, the amount of flower sold remained relatively unchanged, although revenue increased by $70,000, suggesting slight price adjustments. Notably, 481 pounds of flower and 544 grams of concentrate were sold throughout the month.

December 2023 Highlights

  • Six inspections were conducted across dispensaries and cultivation centers  with no violations found.
  • Patients served grew by almost 500 from November.
  • The top state for temporary patient registrations was Maryland for the fourth month in a row followed by Virginia than Florida.
