Teri Janine Quinn, a pillar of Ward 5 for over a decade, was officially sworn in today to the District of Columbia’s Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Board (ABC Board). Ms. Quinn’s appointment, unanimously approved by the D.C. Council earlier this month, marks the start of a four-year term that will see her play a key role in shaping the city’s approach to alcohol and medical cannabis regulations.

A seasoned attorney and community leader, Quinn brings a wealth of experience to the table. As president of the Bloomingdale Civic Association for the past 13 years, she has spearheaded efforts to improve the lives of residents in Ward 5. She also served as Chair of Advisory Neighborhood Commission 5E.

“We congratulate our newest board member on her appointment and are confident that Board Member Quinn will leverage her talents and expertise to further elevate the work of ABCA,” remarked ABCA Director Fred Moosally.

Quinn’s appointment coincides with the departure of James Short Jr. (Ward 7), who is stepping down after a decade of service on the board. Mr. Short, a retired Deputy Fire Chief, is praised for his dedication to public safety, which he also brought to bear during his tenure on the ABC Board.

“We also want to recognize the invaluable contributions of outgoing Board member, James Short. His commitment to the public’s health and safety has been a hallmark of his long career and his work with the ABC Board,” Moosally added in the press release.

The ABC Board plays a critical role in regulating and overseeing the sale and consumption of alcohol and medical cannabis in the District. Board meetings are open to the public and held weekly on Wednesdays. Residents can stay informed about upcoming meetings and agendas by visiting the ABCA website at abca.dc.gov.
