Medical cannabis sales in December 2024 grew by $50,000 from November 2024. Overall dispensary sales dropped slightly over the month, according to the monthly metrics report released by The Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration.
Manufacturer sales overtook $800,000 in overall sales which is higher than October. However, Q1 2025 was over $1.5 million less than the same financial period in 2024. Sales in December 2023 were also over $600,000 higher than in December 2024.
December 2024 D.C. medical cannabis sales were the lowest of the same month in the last four years, still showing the impact of Maryland’s recreational legalization.
The market has steadied from its fall revenue lows, but it continues to grow slowly in comparison to the increase in medical dispensaries coming online in the city.
Patients continued a steady increase if not slow increase over December. Overall registered patients rose by almost 1,000, and patients grew by just over 50 people. Temporary patients rose by almost 4,000 to 54,268, but only 3,828 of those people purchased from a dispensary.
Out of District patients average medical cannabis purchases were nearly double that of D.C. residents. D.C. residents continued to make up the majority of the city’s sales, bringing in $1.58 million in December 2024.
The top non-D.C. resident locations were Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina. Virginia patients are still growing slowly, up almost 100 in December.
